Girls tennis roundup: Willmar Cardinals edged by Sabres, 4-3

Sep. 3—SARTELL — The Willmar girls tennis team won three of four singles matches in its Central Lakes Conference dual with Sartell.

That fourth win proved elusive as the Sabres came through with a 4-3 victory on Tuesday.

Kennedy Mara led off the Cardinals with a 7-6 (4), 6-3 win over Brooke Hennen at No. 1 singles. Aubrey Peterson beat Sartell’s Claire Corrigan, 6-4, 6-1 at No. 2 singles. Emily Floren capped off the run with a 6-3, 6-3 victory at No. 3 singles against Reese Kenning.

Willmar hosts Rocori for a CLC dual at 4:30 p.m. Thursday at Willmar High School.

Each of New London-Spicer’s wins over Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa came in two sets in a sweep at New London.

A pair of Wildcats won 7-6 sets. Emma Freidel held off Bree Thieschafer to win at No. 2 singles, 7-6, 6-2. Brooke Glauvitz won a tight second set at No. 3 singles to defeat Izzy Graham, 6-1, 7-6.

NLS hosts Hutchinson at 4 p.m. Thursday back in New London. BBE hosts Montevideo at 4 p.m. Monday in Belgrade.

Lac qui Parle Valley/Dawson-Boyd earned points at Nos. 2 and 4 singles and Nos. 1 and 3 doubles to beat Benson/Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg at Benson.

LQPV/D-B’s toughest point came at No. 1 doubles, where Gertie Sieg and Sadie Hacker beat Anabelle Detoy and Molly Jones 7-6 (0), 6-4.

Benson/KMS won at No. 2 doubles in a close match. Avery Davis and Lyla Lysen beat Val Piotter and Maya Bieji 6-4, 7-6 (6).

LQPV/D-B next plays at 4 p.m. Thursday at Morris/Chokio-Alberta. Benson/KMS (4-4) next plays Morris/CA at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at Benson.

Montevideo swept all seven matches in straight sets for the victory over Yellow Medicine East at Granite Falls.

Montevideo next plays Melrose at 4:30 p.m. Thursday in Montevideo.

YME plays Thursday at MACCRAY.

Minnewaska cruised past MACCRAY at the Sauk Centre triangular.

Alia Randt, Megan Thorfinnson, Olivia Danielson and Kaylen Blair each earned victories at Nos. 1, 2, 3 and 4 singles.

Katy Vold and Avarie Uhde won at No. 1 doubles. Rachel Rankin and Addy Heid were victorious at No. 2 doubles. Katie Sorenson and Mckenna Uhde earned a win at No. 3 doubles.

MACCRAY hosts Yellow Medicine East at 4:30 p.m. Thursday at Clara City. Minnewaska plays host to Sauk Centre at 4:30 p.m. Thursday at Glenwood.

MACCRAY picked up wins from their Nos. 3 and 4 singles players against the Mainstreeters at Sauk Centre.

Ilianna Bautista defeated Emily Wojtanowitz (7-5, 6-1) and Kylie Prekker beat Aubree Randall (6-0, 6-3) for the Wolverines.
