Goals Dry Up From Argentina & France Superstars As Inter Milan Prepare For Man City & AC Milan Showdowns

Date:

Inter Milan have seen worrying form from Lautaro Martinez and Marcus Thuram in front of goal ahead of their Champions League showdown with Man City.

This is highlighted in today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews.

Inter coach Simone Inzaghi decided to rotate his team quite significantly yesterday against Monza.

However, one area of the pitch in which the Nerazzurri coach did not ring in the changes was in attack.

The usual first-choice strike partnership of Lautaro Martinez and Marcus Thuram lined up in attack against the Brianzoli.

Captain Martinez has not gotten the season off to a strong start.

There has been an evident lack of fitness and sharpness as the Argentine had not scored in any of Inter’s matches before the international break.

Martinez was not even available for the team’s win over Lecce, due to a muscle injury.

Thuram, on the other hand, got the campaign off to a blistering start.

The Frenchman had scored four goals in just three matches prior to the break.

Against Monza yesterday, neither Martinez nor Thuram were able to be decisive in the penalty area.

In the view of the Gazzetta, Martinez in particularly looked miles off his best.

The Argentine got virtually no joy up against Brianzoli defender Pablo Mari. Therefore, it is hard to see what he will be able to conjure up against Manchester City’s defenders.

But it was not just Martinez.

Thuram also looked far from the player he had been prior to the break.

There were one or two bright moments from the Frenchman.

But in the penalty area, Thuram did not look nearly as ruthless as he had been with his braces against Genoa and Atalanta.

Martinez and Thuram each had one good chance. They met crosses from Federico Dimarco and Benjamin Pavard respectively.

But neither were able to direct their header on target.
