Fore!

Well, actually 7th.

A new ranking of top destinations of major U.S. cities for golf vacations puts Greater Akron among the Top 10.

The city that has hosted the likes of Tiger Woods and the PGA Tour in the past and is now home to a stop on the PGA Senior Tour lost out to Scottsdale, Arizona, for the top spot.

Akron ranked No. 7 on the list that was put together by golf apparel brand Gavin Green.

The ranking looked at 11 metrics ranging from the number of golf courses to the average player rating of golf courses to the availability and affordability of restaurants.

It also took into account the weather and even hotel costs.

Greater Akron is home to 13 courses including the famed Firestone Country Club with another 62 within 20 miles.

The study found food and drink are “affordable,” too in the Rubber City with a meal for two costing an average $51.

And at $120 a night, hotels are more affordable in Akron than the national average of $134.

Another Ohio city made the Top 10 list with Cincinnati at No. 5.

There are 37 courses in and around Cincinnati that have favorable reviews among golfers.

Like Akron, the cost of a hotel is cheaper than the national average “making it an affordable place for a golf holiday but without sacrificing the quality of the courses.”
