Greene named Assistant Basketball Coach at Concord University – HoopDirt

Date:

Concord University head men’s basketball Todd May has announced the hiring of Drew Greene to his staff as an assistant coach.

Greene comes to Concord after spending this past season at Division I IU-Indianapolis, formerly IUPUI. He was originally hired on as the director or operations for the Jaguars, but was promoted to a full-time assistant before the start of the 2023-24 season.

Although Greene has spent the last few years in the Midwest, he is familiar with Appalachia having played at former Mountain East Conference school UVa.-Wise from 2019-21. Greene hails from High Point, North Carolina.

“Drew Greene is a high-energy, highly-motivated young up and coming coach with Division I experience that we are excited to add to our program,” May said.

May and the men’s basketball program pursued Greene out of high school, as a player, before he chose UVa.-Wise.

“Things didn’t work out then, but five years later (Drew) is a Mountain Lion,” May explained. “We are very excited to add Drew to our staff as he fits out GRIT culture and what we are about here at Concord University.”

After graduating in just two years from UVa.-Wise, Greene went on to play two graduate years of basketball at two NAIA schools, Bethel (Ind.) and Milligan (Tenn.). In addition to playing at each NAIA school, Greene was a part-time assistant coach at each stop.

“I want to start by thanking Coach May for the tremendous opportunity to be apart of the Concord University men’s basketball program,” Greene said. “I am looking forward to serving our student-athletes well by pouring into their lives on and off the court. My wife and I are excited to be involved in the local community. We are looking forward to being part of the Mountain Lion Family.”

Greene holds his undergraduate degree in business administration from UVa.-Wise, a master’s in business administration from Bethel and a graduate degree in coaching and sports management from Milligan.

Greene’s wife, Isabelle, was a former standout volleyball player at Bethel.
