A closer look at the 12-2 Newtown, Pennsylvania win over Puyallup, Washington in four innings, Sunday at Lamade Stadium.

PLAY OF THE GAME –Greyson Gage’s two-run single: Gage set the tone for Pennsylvania’s big day when he hit a two-run single and quickly put the Mid-Atlantic champions ahead to stay. Pennsylvania picked up where it had left off the previous night against New Hampshire when it broke open that game late.

PENNSYLVANIA PLAYER OF THE GAME — Greyson Gage: Speaking of Gage, he had a big day from the No. 5 spot in the lineup. Gage went 3 for 3 with a triple, three RBIs and two runs. It was a super day for the Gage family with Brody going 1 for 2 with an RBI. Gavin Caudill also remained hot and went 1 for 1 with a single, RBI and run. He has three RBIs in his last two at-bats.

WASHINGTON PLAYER OF THE GAME — William Hemenway III: The talented left fielder capped his outstanding summer by going 1 for 1 and scoring a run. He consistently provided production from the lower part of the order as well as terrific defense.

BIG INNING–Pennsylvania first: The Mid-Atlantic champions wasted no time making their presence felt. As many watched the Yankees coming into the stadium, Pennsylvania did all it could to make itself the main attraction, scoring four runs on three timely hits while building a lead it did not relinquish. Five of the first six batters reached base, including four straight with two outs.

BEST EFFORT–Pennsylvania’s offensive production: Less than 24 hours after breaking out against New Hampshire, Pennsylvania kept going strong and all parts of the lineup were threats, as has been the case all summer. All 12 players reached base, remarkably doing so before the second out was recorded in the third inning. Four players also had reached base twice in their first two plate appearances at that point. Pennsylvania finished with nine hits and has outscored its last two opponents, 17-2.

FLASHING LEATHER–Washington third baseman Jett Taylor made an immediate defensive impact in the bottom of the first inning. Brayden Peiffer hit a rocket down the line, but Taylor was there and made a super catch, nearly doubling a runner off first. Pennsylvania second baseman Dean Hamilton stayed with a tricky grounder which hit near the lip between the infield dirt and right-field grass. His good play kept the runner on second from scoring a run. Later that inning, Gavin Caudill made a tremendous play, charging toward what looked like a sure Deegan Rowley single. Instead, Caudill quickly retrieved the grounder and fired to shortstop Brayden Peiffer for an inning-ending forceout at second base. Washington catcher Kohen Wills twice hustled after wild pitches in the bottom of the second before flipping to charging pitcher Rawly Jennings as they erased two runners at the plate.

WHAT IT MEANS– Pennsylvania won its second straight elimination game and 20th game this summer. The Mid-Atlantic champions are 20-1 and are guaranteed to finish among the top 6 in the United States. They play again Tuesday against the loser of Monday’s Nevada-Hawaii game. Washington concluded a fantastic summer as the team from Puyallup became the first in league history to reach the Series. The Northwest champions also staged two remarkable comebacks at regionals to reach South.
