A man shot a firearm inside a La Quinta Cove residence Friday morning, drawing heavy police presence to the area, including a Riverside County Sheriff’s Department helicopter. Authorities later apprehended the man, and no injuries were reported.
Deputies from the sheriff’s department were dispatched to the 52-000 block of Avenida Martinez at 9:21 a.m. regarding a subject suffering a mental health episode, according to department spokesperson Lt. Deirdre Vickers.
“Upon arrival, deputies learned the suspect had fired a handgun inside the location and fled the area before their arrival,” Vickers said in an email.
During the search, the suspect was found in the 77-000 block of Avenida Montezuma. Vickers said he was taken into custody for the negligent discharge of a firearm.
No injuries were reported, and the city of La Quinta said in a statement that there is no present danger to the public. The sheriff’s department is continuing to investigate the incident.
This is a developing story.
