Tyra Georgiou needs R75 000 to cover all the costs of her trip to Asia because she will represent SA in the World Fitness Federation (WFF) Asia Pacific Championships in the Philippines in August.
This comes after Georgiou won the bikini model and glamour titles at the Bloem Classic pageant earlier this year. These wins saw her qualify for two international events in season B for both divisions.
Georgiou was selected to compete at the WFF Asia Pacific Championship in the Philippines in August and the WFF Universe Championships in Las Vegas, USA, later this year.
“On behalf of the WFF SA, I am honoured to recognise and celebrate the exceptional performance of Tyra-Lee, one of our bikini and glamour athletes at the Free State and Gauteng shows this year,“ said Pieta Botes, the WFF SA vice president.
“Her dedication, talent, and remarkable physique have impressed us all. We are thrilled to announce that she was chosen for the SA team, a testament to her hard work and unwavering commitment to excellence.
“We are incredibly proud and delighted to have her represent our country. We wish her all the best in her preparations and are confident she will continue to shine and make us proud on the global stage,” said Botes.
Georgiou also holds the title of bikini model under 30, and ladies model overall, which she won at the Diamond Classic in April. She also won bikini novice 2023 and bikini and glamour 2023.
A time for everything
This aspiring fitness bikini model started modelling at age two but became fully committed to the career after high school.
Her love and ambition for fitness bikini modelling came from her passion for the sport.
“I chose fitness bikini modelling because it took my passion for modelling and fitness and put it into one. I do bikini and glamour because as you go up in the categories, you must get more muscular and bigger, and that is not what I imagined my body achieving. So, I opted for a more feminine look, which is why I do bikini and glamour modelling,” said Georgiou.
Georgiou’s hard work and commitment to modelling landed her a chance to represent SA in Germany last September. However, unfortunately, she had to let the opportunity pass because she couldn’t raise the funds on time.
“I was disappointed in myself for being unable to raise the funds, but this did not discourage me. It made me want to work harder and get better. I’m not in this for the short run. Even if I don’t get to raise funds for the Philippines now, I will not let that take my passion for modelling. I believe there is a time and place for everything.”
Dylan Thomas, the coach for InShape Fitness, said, “I have been in the bodybuilding industry for the past 10 years, and in that time, I have coached dozens of competitive bodybuilders and bikini athletes.
“What sets Tyra apart from her opposition is her work ethic. Tyra has not placed worse than first in any of the bikini lineups she has done since she started this sport.
“The fact that she has done so well in such a short time and has qualified to represent our country overseas is phenomenal.
“I’m looking forward to seeing how Tyra does against the best of the best in the world, and I’m sure she’s going to blow them out of the water,” said Thomas.
