Hull seal deals for Rushworth, Palmer & Belloumi

Date:

Hull City have signed goalkeeper Carl Rushworth from Brighton on a season-long loan and midfielders Kasey Palmer and Mohamed Belloumi on a permanent contracts.

It is the fourth loan spell of Rushworth’s career, having made 48 league and cup appearances for Swansea City last season.

Palmer, 27, has signed for the Tigers on a three-year deal with an option of a further 12 months after spending two seasons with the Sky Blues.

Meanwhile, 22-year-old Algeria winger Belloumi puts pen to paper on a four-year deal with an option of a fifth.

Belloumi’s move from Portuguese Primeira Liga side Farense for an undisclosed fee was confirmed by the Tigers on the 23:00 deadline.

He scored seven times and provided five assists in his club’s return to the Portuguese top flight last season.

His only international cap to date came during Algeria’s 5-1 friendly victory over Liberia in June 2021.

Attacking midfielder Palmer told the club website: “I’m buzzing that it’s finally done and all agreed and I can’t wait to get going.

“The owner is ambitious and the club has shown its ambition with the signings they’ve made.”

Palmer has made 198 Championship appearances for six separate clubs and arrives at the MKM Stadium for an undisclosed fee.

He started his career at Chelsea before being loaned out to Huddersfield Town in the 2016-17 season when the Terriers earned promotion to the Premier League via the play-offs.

Palmer scored after coming on as a second-half substitute during Coventry’s 1-1 draw at Bristol City on Saturday in his final match for the club.

Former England Under-21 international Rushworth previously spent time with Walsall and Lincoln City, keeping 20 clean sheets in 46 games for the Imps.

He has played three times for the Seagulls’ under-21 side but has not yet featured for the first team.

“My in-possession game is one of my strengths, along with my shot-stopping,” Rushworth said.

“The manager [Tim Walter] wants me to play mixed football – really nice from the back, but also know if there are advantages further up the pitch that playing one ball into the final third is better.”

Hull have drawn all three Championship games so far this season and are away to Leeds United on Saturday.
