“I’m tired” – Pep Guardiola responds to Jurgen Klopp question over Premier League fatigue

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has shutdown the suggestion that he is not suffering from tiredness in the way Jurgen Klopp did, which ultimately led to an exit.

The 53-year-old further extended his stay at the Etihad Stadium last week, having caused doubts and uncertainty within the football club by remaining deep into the final year of his contract – which was originally due to expire at the end of the ongoing campaign.

Despite the initial feeling that Guardiola would put pen to paper on a one-year agreement with the option to extend by a further 12 months, Manchester City confirmed that the Catalan tactician had signed on for a simple two-year extension, keeping him in place until 2027.

Many have wondered how Guardiola can maintain his desire and intensity for the job heading into a remarkable 10th season at Manchester City, especially given the manner in which Jurgen Klopp brought an end to his tenure at Anfield.

Quizzed during a recent press conference, Pep Guardiola responded to questions as to why he is not suffering from the same tiredness that Klopp did, which ultimately led to the German bringing an end to his time on Merseyside after a hugely successful tenure.

“No, I’m tired. Sometimes I’m tired. Of course I’m tired,” Guardiola insisted.

“Sometimes it’s, ‘Oh god another game!’ Yeah, sometimes. It happens. The difference is it helps me. For the fact we win, win, and win, it helps a lot.”

Pep Guardiola continued, “Our life is better when you win. And when you win, and win a lot in these last years, it helps to continue.”

Pep Guardiola faces a fresh challenge as Manchester City manager this season, as his club – despite all of their success across competitions – find themselves on a run of five matches across competitions without a draw or a win.

The latest of those defeats came at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday evening, with Tottenham inflicting a shock 0-4 drubbing over the reigning Premier League champions, with the next top-flight clash for City coming at Anfield against Liverpool next Sunday.
