Inter Milan Owners Oaktree Want To Focus On Youth – Two Ex Lazio Stars Could Be Shown Exit Door

Inter Milan could decide to part ways with both Stefan de Vrij and Francesco Acerbi next summer.

This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInter1908. They report that Nerazzurri owners Oaktree Capital are focusing their project on youth.

At the moment, Inter are relying on Francesco Acerbi and Stefan de Vrij as their two main options in the centre of their defense.

Both of the former Lazio defenders bring plenty of experience. They both have the ideal characteristics to play in the centre of Inter’s back three.

However, both Acerbi and de Vrij are now well into their thirties.

The Italian international will be 37 by the time next season starts. Meanwhile, the Dutchman will be 33.

Therefore, it looks inevitable that at least one of the pair will be on their way at the end of the season.

Both Acerbi and de Vrij are under contract with Inter until the end of next June.

And according to the Corriere, both of the pair could very well leave at the end of the season.

Inter Could Part Ways With Both De Vrij & Acerbi As Oaktree Focus On Youth

Inter owners Oaktree Capital have made it clear that they want the focus of the Nerazzurri’s project to be on younger players.

That means that the owners are willing to invest in transfer market. They don’t necessarily expect Inter to rely on low-cost opportunities as they often have in recent years.

However, Oaktree want to sign young players with room to improve.

That was the case when the Nerazzurri brought in defender Tomas Palacios.

The Argentine is hardly a big name. There would certainly be many potential targets who would have been able to make more of an impact immediately.

But Inter signed Palacios for the future.

And according to the Corriere, Inter may double down on that way of thinking next summer.

Rather than keeping one of de Vrij or Acerbi as a veteran presence alongside a younger signing, Inter may allow both to leave.
