The new retention rules for the Indian Premier League’s (IPL) coming season allows a franchise to retain a maximum of six players, and Delhi Capitals (DC) have seemingly closed in on the names that could be on that list.
Speaking to reporters at an event in Hisar, Haryana, DC’s co-owner Parth Jindal was quick to confirm the obvious name of skipper and star wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant, while sharing some of the other names that will be on the discussion table.
“The (retention) rules have just come out. So after discussing with co-owners GMR and our director of cricket, Sourav Ganguly, decisions will be made,” said Jindal in a video by IANS.

“Rishabh Pant will definitely be retained. We also have Axar Patel, who is excellent, Tristan Stubbs, Jake Fraser-McGurk, Kuldeep Yadav, Abishek Porel, Mukesh Kumar, Khaleel Ahmed; all very good players in our team,” he added.
According to the IPL Player Regulations announced by the BCCI, a franchise can retain a maximum of five capped players (Indian and overseas) and a maximum of two uncapped players. This can be either via retention or the Right to Match (RTM) option.
Any player who hasn’t played international cricket for the last five years or doesn’t have a central contract for the same period is categorized as uncapped.
“We’ll see what happens in the auction,” Jindal continued. “As per the rule, we can retain six players. Those discussions will be held first,” he concluded.
DC haven’t won the IPL since the inception of the league in 2008.
