Iran Superstar In Contention For Inter Milan Starting XI Vs Hellas Verona

Iran international Mehdi Taremi could reportedly receive a rare chance to start for Inter Milan in Serie A this weekend.

According to Tuttosport via FCInterNews, Simone Inzaghi contemplates fielding the 32-year-old from the first minute at the Bentegodi.

Taremi maintained his impressive international form in November.

Indeed, he scored in a goal-glutted 3-2 win at Kyrgyzstan on Tuesday, helping his nation scoop up three vital points.

Bidding to secure a fourth consecutive World Cup qualification, the Iranians have been on a tear in qualifying Group A.

Except for a scoreless away draw against Uzbekistan, they’ve won all five remaining qualifiers.

As a result, they have put one foot in the heavily anticipated 2026 edition.

Despite only scoring twice, Taremi has been a core member of Amir Ghalenoei’s squad.

In addition to his scoring exploits, the former Porto striker has tallied three assists.

While excelling on the international stage, the Iranian has struggled to find his footing at Giuseppe Meazza.

Taremi joined Inter with a pedigree of a lethal goalscorer.

However, he has fired blanks in his first ten appearances in Serie A.

In his defense, he has only made one league start.

With Inzaghi heavily relying on Lautaro Martinez and Marcus Thuram, he has had to settle for a bit-part role.

But that could change this weekend.

After inspiring Argentina to a 1-0 win against Peru last night, El Toro will return to Appiano Gentile late.

Therefore, Inzaghi will likely bench him against Verona to ensure he stays fit and avoids fatigue.

Meanwhile, Taremi could fill his boots.

It’s a head-to-head battle between him and Marko Arnautovic.

Thuram should retain his place in the line-up, with Taremi battling the Austrian veteran for the other starting berth.

However, he’s better positioned to register his first Serie A start since a day-two triumph against Lecce.
