Items seized from former Clark County sheriff Jamey Noel to be auctioned

Date:

Several suits, guns and other personal items previously owned by former Clark County Sheriff Jamey Noel, who received a 15-year prison sentence in October after pleading guilty to 27 felony charges, will be auctioned off on New Year’s Day.

After Special Judge Larry Medlock approved an order “auctioning certain property seized by Indiana State Police” Friday, according to court records, Freije and Freije Auctions will award items to online and in-person bidders Jan. 1 beginning at 10 a.m. The live auction will take place in Clayton, Indiana, near Indianapolis.

The items to be auctioned off include:

  • Dozens of Tom James suits

  • Three pairs of Ferragamo shoes

The auction comes after three properties with ties to Noel were listed for sale on Zillow.

What happened in the Jamey Noel case?

After Noel’s tenure as sheriff expired in 2022, current Sheriff Scottie Maples’ staff discovered a wiretap that led from the assistant chief’s office to Noel’s former office. Maples said he learned of “unnerving and possible criminal activities.”

From there, state troopers interviewed witnesses, visited properties and requested credit statements and tax records. Noel would later plead guilty to charges stating he had bought personal items with funds from a bank account of Clark County’s former emergency services provider, New Chapel, which Noel once led.

As more search warrants were served, investigators suspected others close to Noel could face charges as well. His wife, Misty Noel, and daughter, Kasey Noel, face charges of theft and tax evasion, and are scheduled to go on trial Feb. 3, 2025.

In April, Noel was found to be in contempt of court for being in possession of two handguns, a violation of a bond term set in November 2023. Noel was then placed in a Scott County jail and remained there until his October sentencing, partly because Medlock raised his bond amount from $75,000 to $1.5 million while he was still serving a 60-day sentence for being in contempt of court.

Noel is incarcerated in the New Castle Correctional Facility in New Castle, Indiana.
