IUP names Scuilli as new Assistant Basketball Coach – HoopDirt

Date:

Kevin Scuilli was named the newest assistant coach for the Indiana University of Pennsylvania men’s basketball program in September 2024 and begins his first season with the program in 2024-25.

Scuilli arrives at IUP after two successful assistant coaching stints as at Penn State Behrend in 2017-18 and 2021-24, including a regular season championship for the Lions last season. Penn State Behrend went 52-30 overall under Scuilli’s tutelage as the program’s top assistant from 2021-24.

Scuilli coached two Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) Players of the Year at PSB, including Tommy DiRenzo in 2023-24. The Lions had five All-AMCC selections during Scuilli’s tenure, spanning back to September 2021.

“I would like to thank head coach Joe Lombardi for giving me the opportunity to join the IUP family,” Scuilli said. “I am extremely excited for the chance to guide our student-athletes and help them grow to be the best versions of themselves, on and off the court.”

Scuilli handled daily practice planning and execution, film breakdowns, scouting reports and managed operational aspects of the Penn State Behrend men’s basketball program.

He worked as the men’s basketball video coordinator at NCAA DI Drexel University for one season in 2020-21. The Dragons won the program’s first Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Championship in 25 seasons that year, with Scuilli playing an important role in scouting reports, creation of video databases and the oversight of all film operations for the program.

“I’m grateful to have Kevin join our program as the lead assistant coach,” IUP head coach Joe Lombardi said. “There are a lot of various responsibilities in this position and I’m confident that he has an extensive skill set to do a great job with everything from player development, academics and recruiting.”

Following his first coaching stint at Penn State Behrend during the 2017-18 season, Scuilli spent two seasons at Bethany College as an assistant from 2018-20.

“In the time that he’s been here, Kevin has shown great organizational skills and has connected well with the young men in our program,” Lombardi continued. “I’m confident he will do a great job of building upon the IUP men’s basketball culture and be a big contributor toward our team becoming championship worthy.”

Scuilli played four seasons collegiately at Penn State Behrend, named a team captain in his senior season. The program went 89-23 during his four-year career. He earned a marketing degree from Penn State Behrend in 2017.

IUP opens the 2024-25 season on November 8-9 in West Virginia with matchups against Glenville State and Charleston (W.Va.). Season ticket information will be announced in the coming weeks.
