President Joe Biden could have a new job title soon: great grandfather.
Naomi Biden, Joe Biden and first lady Jill Biden’s eldest granddaughter, announced in November that she’s pregnant with her first child. And now the baby is due: The president told USA TODAY in an exclusive interview she’s scheduled to have a C-section Wednesday.
“I’m about to be a great-grandfather, Jesus God,” he said on Sunday, smiling during a sit-down at the White House.
Naomi Biden is the eldest daughter of Joe Biden’s son, Hunter Biden, and author Kathleen Buhle. She is a lawyer and married attorney Peter Neal on the South Lawn at the White House in November 2022. The ceremony marked the first time a sitting president’s grandchild was wed at the White House.
Joe and Jill Biden have seven grandchildren. Hunter Biden has four daughters and a son. Beau Biden, Joe Biden’s son and Jill Biden’s step-son who died in 2015 from brain cancer, has a daughter and a son.
The president’s eldest grandchild has often stayed out of the spotlight, but she has regularly traveled with Joe and Jill Biden. She and Neal have resided at the White House.
Naomi Biden first shared that she was pregnant on a date appropriate for a member of a political family – Election Day.
“(We) voted,” Biden captioned the post, alongside an American flag emoji and an upside-down smiley face emoji.
After President Biden dropped out of the 2024 presidential race earlier in 2024, his eldest granddaughter spoke out about his exit from the race.
“I’m nothing but proud today of my Pop, our President, Joe Biden, who has served our country with every bit of his soul and with unmatched distinction,” Naomi Biden posted on X. “Not only has he been—and will continue to be—the most effective president of our lifetime, but he has likely already cemented himself as the most effective and impactful public servant in our nation’s history.”
Last year, she also testified in her dad’s federal gun trial in June about his struggles with substance addiction. Hunter Biden was convicted on all charges in the case, but Joe Biden pardoned his son in December.
