Jets to place OL Olu Fashanu on IR with plantar fasciitis, will not need surgery

Date:

Jets interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich announced Tuesday that rookie OL Olu Fashanu‘s season is over, as he’ll be placed on the injured reserve with plantar fasciitis.

“Unfortunately his season is done,” Ulbrich told reporters via Zoom.

The team clarified that Fashanu will not need surgery and expect him to full recover from the injury.

Fashanu suffered the injury during the fourth quarter of Sunday’s 19-9 loss to the Los Angeles Rams. He played in 15 games with seven starts during his rookie year after being drafted with the No. 11 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft out of Penn State.

“It’s unfortunate, he’s having a great rookie season,” Ulbrich said. “But at the same time, these injuries sometimes give you an opportunity to step back and really start absorbing some of the information as you were kind of thrown into the fire. He’ll use it as an opportunity to grow, I know that.”

Fashanu owned a 61.2 overall grade, according to PFF, which placed him 71st out of 133 qualifying offensive tackles. He allowed just one sack and was called for only seven penalties over 534 offensive snaps played.
