Kamal Miller opens up on potential MLS schedule change 🗓️

Date:

Portland Timbers and Canada defender Kamal Miller has sounded off about reports over a potential schedule change for Major League Soccer after the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Mexico, and Canada.

The league is reportedly contemplating swapping schedules to mirror the European leagues, as MLS currently plays through the summer.

Much has been made regarding the potential impacts on matchday weather, transfer spending, and international windows, and the topic has become rather contentious in North America.

But speaking while on international duty with Canada, Miller had his say on the discussion.

“More from a football point standpoint, mirroring the European season will push the European leagues to take us more seriously,” he said.

“I think it will allow for a lot of young players and stars around the league (MLS) to get moves to the top-five leagues, because it’s the same schedule and same expectations.

“I think it’s a great idea.”

Having played in Montreal, Miami, and now Portland, Miller has seen the range of weather you will see during an MLS season, but he appears to believe the impact on the transfer windows makes the schedule change an enticing prospect.

Any change will likely not come until after the 2026 World Cup — a tournament that MLS and U.S. Soccer hopes will raise their standing in the global game.
