Knicks showing interest in sharpshooter Matt Ryan on two-way deal

Date:

With the Knicks still needing to add a couple of players to their roster over the first few weeks of the season, SNY’s Ian Begley has confirmed that veteran sharpshooter Matt Ryan is on their radar.

Sources have told Begley that New York had been considering Ryan on a potential two-way deal prior to the Landry Shamet injury, and now that they’ve cleared another two-way spot, the interest remains there.

Ryan, of course, is a local product having grown up in White Plains and he shined during his days playing high school ball at Iona Prep where he was named Mr. New York Basketball his senior year.

The 27-year-old started his collegiate career at Notre Dame before transferring to Vanderbilt, and then finishing up at Chattanooga where he averaged 15.4 points per game while shooting 42 percent from the field.

Ryan went unselected in the 2020 NBA Draft and he hasn’t been able to carve out much of a role for himself over his first three pro seasons spent with the Celtics, Lakers, Timberwolves, and Pelicans.

Last season in New Orleans he averaged just 5.4 points but he shot an impressive 43 percent from the field and 45 percent from beyond the arc across 28 appearances.
