This Sunday (Oct 20), learn all about the ancient art of cricket fighting at Gulou bar Timekeepers. Part of a new collaboration between Timekeepers and culture company Our Beijing called the Culture & Craic Series, the event will see participants learn how to choose and raise crickets and, ultimately, how to train them to fight from a cricket fighting master. There’s also a demonstration in store, so you’ll be able to see it live and in person as well.
“We both want to promote local culture and history in a fun way … you know, to have some craic,” says Dominic of Our Beijing, “and that’s what this whole series is all about.”
Our Beijing is no stranger to the venue, having hosted events at Timekeepers, formerly Ball House, during its previous ownership. “It’s perfect for events,” Dominic says, “especially cricket fighting, as you can turn one section into a mini arena with an upper floor overlooking the fights!”
The cricket fighting event will be the beginning of this new venture, with Dominic telling the Beijinger they’re still fine-tuning future events, with this setting the tone for cool things to come.
Culture & Craic: the Ancient Tradition of Cricket Fighting is happening on Sun, Oct 20, from 3pm to 5pm. Entry is RMB 150 per person and comes with a drinks token. Spots can reserved by scanning the QR code in the poster.
