Liverpool FC news roundup: Curtis Jones GENIUS, Real BRICKING IT, SUING Man City

Curtis Jones with the dream debut

It was always likely that Curtis Jones got his England debut against Greece. He got more than that, as it turns out.

We expected Curtis Jones to get his debut for England on Thursday after so many players dropped out of the squad. Lee Carsley decided to start the Scouser and got a brilliant midfield display in return.

We’d be saying that anyway but the fact that Jones popped up to score the third with a heel flick is just on another level. He’s in magnificent form right now – and it’s just magic that he’s proving that even away from Liverpool.

Real Madrid worried

There is a feeling around Real Madrid that simply put Madrid haven’t been working hard enough.

It’s been claimed that some senior figures were left unimpressed at the squad being given two days’ rest following the Barca debacle whereas Hansi Flick had his stars back in the following day.

And the concern stretches to the upcoming game at Anfield, with voices around the training ground admitting according to Relevo: “Either we raise our level or Liverpool will sweep us away.”

In the newest episode of ‘The Reds Roundtable’, a show produced for the club’s website, Mohamed Salah has shared how Roberto Firmino’s Liverpool exit has led him to change his outlook on day-to-day life at the AXA training centre.

Salah, who appeared on the show with Alisson Becker and Andy Robertson, said: “The thing I appreciate the most is every morning when I see the guys. We’ve shared unbelievable moments, especially us three plus Virg [Van Dijk] and Trent [Alexander-Arnold], the senior group.

UEFA has also taken the decision to suspend David Coote, who officiated at the European Championship earlier this year.

In an official statement, the body said: “The UEFA Referees Committee immediately suspended David Coote until further notice on November 11 – in advance of the upcoming round of UEFA matches – when it became aware of his inappropriate behaviour.”

This means that Coote will not be involved in any refereeing for the foreseeable future, at least until the PGMOL and FA investigations have concluded.

One more backroom position has been filled with the installation of first-team rehabilitation therapist David Breen.

The 39-year-old Irishman is a former intercounty hurler with Limerick, winning an All-Ireland title with his club side Na Piarsaigh in 2016.

His work in physiotherapy has previously brought him to several elite sports organisations including first-team physio roles at rugby sides Wasps and Harlequins as well as Munster in his native Ireland.

According to Martin Ziegler of The Times, Liverpool are one of four clubs who have lodged a legal notice reserving the right to seek compensation if Manchester City are found guilty of serious charges in their case with the Premier League.

Arsenal, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur are the other three clubs involved, with each club taking the step to formally register their potential claims ahead of a potential statute of limitations deadline last week.
