Liverpool manager Arne Slot demands £67m midfielder signing from the club

The midfielder played under Slot at Feyenoord and he is ready to reunite himself with the player who is off to a fine start this season.

In nine appearances in all competitions, Kökçü has scored four goals and registered three assists.

After making a stunning start to the season, winning six matches out of the first seven in the Premier League, Slot is already looking to make reinforcements to his squad.

This is not the first time Liverpool have been linked with a move for the Benfica man.

The Turkish player played under Slot in the Eredivisie where both of them won the league title in the past and Slot believes that he needs him again to strengthen his already strong side.

Despite not splashing the cash in the summer transfer window, the Reds and Slot have surprised everyone with their performances this season.

Out of their two summer signings of Federico Chiesa and Giorgi Mamardashvili , only the former instantly joined the club.

Their other signing will join the club next summer after spending the season on loan at Valencia.

In ten matches in all competitions this season, the Merseyside club have lost just once, which was a surprise defeat against Nottingham Forest at Anfield.

Kökçü made 25 goal contributions in 50 appearances for the Portuguese club last season, catching the attention of clubs across Europe.

As per the report, scouts from Liverpool have been keeping a close eye on his performances.

The player’s contract at Benfica expires in 2028 and he has a release clause of €150 million. However, the Reds would not be required to pay the clause to sign him.

Benfica are expected to demand around £67 million for their prized asset.

Liverpool have previously signed Darwin Nunez from Benfica who has not been too successful at Anfield and this time, the Reds would be hoping that if they make a move for Kökçü, he can prove to be a hit at the club.
