Local teams, individuals unable to advance in CIF Central Section Girls Golf Tournament

The CIF Central Section Division I girls golf championship tournament took place on Monday at San Joaquin Country Club.

A total of nine teams, including Bakersfield-based Frontier, Liberty and Stockdale, competed for two team qualifying spots in the upcoming Southern California Regional Tournament at Chino’s Los Serranos Golf Course on Nov. 14.

Arroyo Grande and Clovis East teams emerged as the two qualifiers at 49 over-par. Clovis West was third (60 over par). Frontier finished highest among the local teams with a seventh-place finish. Liberty was eighth and Stockdale was ninth.

The top individual for each local team was Stockdale’s Gissele Valencia, 24th place, with an 87 (15 over-par), Aubriana Garcia of Frontier, 36th place with a 93 (21 over-par) and Kensley Hale of Liberty shooting a 100 (28 over-par) for 47th place.

Additionally, there were three local non-team individual qualifiers who competed Monday seeking to claim one of 12 individual spots available at the SoCal Regional Tournament.

Chowchilla’s Asterisk Talley was the low individual and was first overall in the tournament with a five-under-par 67.

The top local individual was Malia Giumara of Garces, who finished 21st overall with an 11-over-par 83. Tehachapi’s Makenna Paxton finished 28th with an 89 (17-over-par). Bakersfield Christian’s Emma Braun finished 37th overall with a 93 (21-over-par).
