Louisville basketball: Jeff Walz on adjusting starting lineup vs Miami
Louisville women’s basketball coach Jeff Walz talks adjusting the starting lineup over the last two games after Merrissah Russell had a death in her family.
There are no trap games on the Louisville women’s basketball team’s ACC schedule. That’s because every game is winnable and losable in one of the nation’s toughest leagues.
As a result, the Cardinals (9-5, 2-1 ACC) won’t underestimate Wake Forest (7-6, 0-2) during their conference clash today. The Demon Deacons enter having lost three of their last four games.
“The last time we went to Wake we got beat, and that was with the team that went to the Elite Eight,” Louisville coach Jeff Walz said. “So, we don’t take anyone for granted.”
Two years ago, the Demon Deacons got their first win over U of L, 68-57, after nine straight losses to the Cardinals. Louisville hasn’t been back to Wake Forest’s home court since then but has won back-to-back games during the 2023 ACC Tournament and in Louisville last year. The Cardinals are seeking their fourth consecutive win after keeping the streak alive with a 74-56 victory over Miami. It was one of the team’s better wins, and Walz is starting to see improvement on both ends of the court.
“The more that we can get from those kids, the better off we’re going to be, because we’ve got to have seven or eight that show up each night and play,” Walz said. “… We’re getting more consistent play from a lot of people …, and that’s a good thing for us.”
