In what’s otherwise been a season to forget for the Giants, rookie Malik Nabers was able to put his name in the franchise’s history books.
Early in the second half of Sunday’s season finale against the Philadelphia Eagles, Nabers made his 108th reception of the season, setting a new Giants franchise record.
The previous record of 107 catches was set by Steve Smith in 2009. Nabers, Smith and Odell Beckham Jr. (101 catches in 2016) are the only Giants ever to have 100+ catches in a single season.
Nabers, the No. 6 overall pick out of LSU, also set an NFL record with his 106th catch, the most ever by a rookie wide receiver (surpassing Los Angeles’ Puka Nacua, who set the rookie record in 2023).
Nabers did look a bit shaken up after his 108th catch, and he was on the sideline for the Giants’ next offensive possession. He did return later in the game, though, and did so with quite the bang, scoring a 45-yard touchdown while fighting through contact and tip-toeing the sideline.
