PARADISE ISLAND, Bahamas – The Providence College men’s basketball team fell to the Davidson Wildcats (5-1), 69-58, in a non-conference game on Thursday, Nov. 28 in Paradise Island, Bahamas. With the loss, the Friars dropped to 5-2 on the season. Jayden Pierre (Elizabeth, N.J.) led the Friars with a team-high 14 points, including four threes. Wesley Cardet (Tallahassee, Fla.) added 13 points for the Friars, and Oswin Erhunmwunse (Benin City, Nigeria) grabbed a team high 11 rebounds.
FIRST HALF:
• Davidson scored the first nine points before a pair of Wesley Cardet free throws got the Friars on the board.
• A 16-3 run over a five-minute span saw the Wildcat lead extend to 19.
• Back and forth action led to a 33-17 Davidson lead at the under four timeout.
• Davidson took a 38-18 lead into the half.
• Four Friars contributed to the scoring in the first half. Wesley Cardet Jr. led the way with eight points, followed by Bensley Joseph (Arlington, Mass.) with six.
• Bobby Durkin led the Wildcats in scoring with 12 followed by Connor Kochera with 11.
• Davidson held a 21-18 edge over Providence in rebounds at half.
• Providence shot 5-28 (17.9%) from the field, 4-11 (36.4%) from three, and 4-6 (66.7%) from the free-throw line.
• Davidson shot 13-28 (46.4%) from the field, 4-10 (40.0%) from three and 8-8 (100%) from the free throw line.
SECOND HALF:
• Davidson led 50-31 at the 14:44 mark of the second half.
• The Wildcats held a 17-point lead at the under eight timeout.
• A 9-1 Friar run cut the Davidson lead to 11 with 5:06 to go.
• The Friars fell to Davidson 69-58.
• HIGHLIGHTS:
• Providence finished 17-57 (29.8%) from the field, 7-20 (35.0%) from three and 14-18 (77.8%) from the free throw line.
• Davidson finished 23-49 (46.9%) from the field, 6-19 (31.8%) from three and 17-21 (81.0%) from the free throw line.
• Two Friars finished in double figures, Jayden Pierre (14 points) and Wesley Cardet (13 points).
• PC outrebounded the Wildcats, 37-34, including 19-13 in the second half.
• Connor Kochera led the Davidson offense with 22 points.
