Men’s basketball rallies past Stevens, 72-61 – Hamilton College

HOBOKEN, N.J. – Hamilton College’s Teja Singh ’25 scored his 1,000th career point and the Continentals stormed from behind to a 72-61 win against Stevens Institute of Technology in Steven’s Holiday Tournament inside the Canavan Arena on Friday, Jan. 3. 
 
Season Update

  • Hamilton (10-1) extended its win streak to nine games – the longest since it started the 2018-19 season 13-0.
  • Stevens, which is a member of the Middle Atlantic Conference, moved to 7-3 overall. 

How It Happened

  • The Ducks formed a 9-1 run at the start of the second half for its largest lead of eight points at 38-30 with 17:39 left. 
  • A jumper by Owen Kane ’25 and a 3-pointer by Matthew Rideout ’27 kept the Continentals close.
  • Trailing 45-49, the Continentals were able to cut down their deficit to just one point at 45-44 with 14:10 on the clock. 
  • Hamilton took a two-point deficit and turned it into a six-point advantage after an 8-0 run sparked by a Nate Raub ’27 layup for a 58-52 lead with 7:23 left. Jalen Reese ’27 and Connor Jenkins ’27 also scored during the rally. 
  • Stevens rattled off the next four points, but the Continentals refused to be quiet as Singh hit a big time 3-pointer for a 61-56 advantage with just over five minutes remaining. 
  • Singh extended Hamilton’s lead to nine points at  65-56 with another shot from long distance with 3:12 left of action. 
  • The Ducks didn’t get closer than seven points the rest of the way. 
  • Hank Morgan ’25 closed out the final minute with a pair of shots at the charity stripe for the final margin. 
  • Singh and Morgan combined for an 8-0 run for an early 10-4 lead with 17:17 left in the first half. 
  • After a handful of ties and lead changes within the opening five minutes, Graham Robinson ’25 hit a 3-ball and Morgan scored a layup for a 20-15 lead with 13:02 to go. 
  • A shot from long distance by Rideout gave the Continentals a 26-19 advantage with 9:01 left on the clock.
  • Both teams were struggling to connect on the offensive end with Stevens eventually breaking the drought on a layup with 6:29 to go. 
  • Anthony Loscalzo closed Steven’s margin to one point at 27-26 on a 3-pointer with 2:28 remaining. 
  • Morgan buried a jumper in the paint, but the Ducks closed out the half with three free-throws to even the score at 29-29 apiece. 

Notes 

  • Morgan tallied a team-high 24 points, eight rebounds and three assists. He leads the NESCAC with 19.4 points per game.  
  • Singh finished with 19 points, four rebounds and two assists. Singh, who has 1,004 points, is the 37thplayer in team history to reach the 1,000-point milestone. 
  • Kane grabbed a team-best 10 rebounds and passed out three assists. 
  • Rideout contributed eight points from off the bench. 
  • Reese chipped in five points, five boards and four steals. 
  • Tommy Scholl paced Stevens with 18 points, five assists and two steals.  
  • Jack Spellman finished with a team-best 17 rebounds, while also adding eight points, three blocked shots and two assists. 
  • Kyle Maddison registered 10 points.
  • The Continentals shot 61.9 percent (13-12) in the second half, including 62.5 percent (5-8) from beyond the arc. Hamilton went 13-for-25 (52 percent) at the charity stripe. 
  • Hamilton owned a 42-34 edge on the glass and received 19 points from its bench to Steven’s seven.

Hamilton takes on York College (PA) (7-3) in the Stevens Holiday Tournament Championship game on Saturday, Jan. 4 at 3 p.m.
