MHSAA regional roundup: Haslett, Lansing Catholic boys tennis win titles

Haslett dominated the singles flights while capturing a Division 3 regional championship on Wednesday.

The Vikings finished with 23 points and were two ahead of runner-up Mason.

Haslett had the champion at all four singles flights, taking the title match in each in straight sets. Brothers Sree and Anish Komirisetty led the winners for Haslett. Sree Komirisetty won at No. 1 singles, while Anish Komirisetty was the champion at No, 2 singles. Jackson Clark (No. 3) and Amogh Kodur (No. 4) also won singles tights for Haslett, which also got a runner-up finish at No. 4 doubles from Brahm Myrom and Brady Ostrander.

Mason had champions at three doubles flights while finishing as the regional runner-up. Colin Haynie and Ben Chouinard won at No. 2 doubles, Owen Gustafson and Luke Richmond took first at No. 3 doubles and Nate Brooks and Landon Lucas were the No. 4 doubles champions for the Bulldogs. Mason also had Jackson Page finish as the runner-up at No. 3 singles.

DeWitt, which finished fourth at the regional with 15 points, had Jace Montgomery and Brandon Keefe win the title at No. 1 doubles.

Division 4 at Portland

Lansing Catholic had a pair of champions and had four other flights finish as runner-ups while winning a regional title Thursday.

The Cougars’ champions were Dominic Perez at No. 3 singles and Hayden Riley at No. 4 singles. Lansing Catholic got runner-up finishes at No. 1 singles from Noah West, No. 1 doubles from Kiernan Bradford and Connor McGuire, its No. 3 doubles team of Jacob Payne and Ben Palinski and the No. 4 doubles tandem of Dominic Taylor and Alex Frank.

Williamston was second at the regional and had three doubles champions. Owen Masi and Liam Agnew won at No. 2 doubles, Kendal Hampton and Keith Hanson were the champions at No. 3 doubles and Gabe Robke and Evan Byelich took the title at No. 4 doubles for Williamston.. Gavin Beck was the No. 4 singles runner-up for the Hornets.

Portland finished third and had Damien LeDu win at No. 2 singles and Max Weller and Camden Calkins take first at No. 1 doubles.

Lansing Christian’s Stephen Gollapalli was the champion at No. 1 singles.

Division 2 at Portage Central

Behind a strong showing in doubles play, East Lansing finished third at its regional.

The Trojans had three flight champions with JD Hawthorne and Nat Hickner winning at No. 1 doubles,  Henry Mahler and Gerrit Garcia taking first at No. 2 double and Sacha Karp and Jonny Kait taking the championship at No. 3 doubles. East Lansing had its No. 4 doubles tandem of Bodhi Alwin and Kailin Foster finish as the runner-up.

Division 1 at Brighton

Okemos had runner-up finishes at each of the singles flights while taking second at the regional Thursday. Suchir Nagisetty (No. 1), Kai Minamisono (No. 2), Sahaj Pakala (No. 3) and Shaurya Padwal (No. 4) each finished second.

Alex Zhang and Krishaan Shah (No. 1 doubles), Kai Cuthpert and Addy Sarda (No. 2 doubles) and Akash Krishman and Ayan Arora (No. 3 doubles) were also runner-ups for the Wolves.

GOLF

Division 4 at Heritage Glen

Lansing Catholic finished as the runner-up at its regional Wednesday in Paw Paw with its score of 381. The Cougars were 14 strokes behind champion Kalamazoo Christian.

Lansing Catholic had all four of its golfers place in the top 15 led by Brynn Anderson taking fourth with a round of 90. Julia Sambaer was seventh (92) and Addi Rule was eighth (95) for the Cougars. Elisabeth Ruddell took 11th and Anna Robinson placed 15th to round out the scores for Lansing Catholic.

Olivet’s Jocelyn Rolston qualified for the state finals as an individual after finishing sixth with her round of 91. She helped Olivet finish eighth as a team.
