Myles Garrett becomes youngest player in NFL history to reach 100 career sacks

Date:

It took him longer than expected to get his 100th career sack, but Myles Garrett became the youngest player in history to reach the milestone. The Browns edge rusher turns 29 next week.

He had only one sack in the three games before Sunday to get him to 99.5, with his sack of Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow late in the first half Sunday finally putting him over the century mark.

“It makes my dad [Lawrence] proud,” Garrett said, via Dan Labbe of cleveland.com. “That was for daddy, so that’s what it means to me. It doesn’t mean much in a loss, but I get to see him smile and get that accomplishment. He’s been telling me to do it for the last three weeks, so happy to get that one for him.”

Garrett tied Bruce Smith and Lawrence Taylor as the fourth-fastest to the milestone in NFL history, getting it done in 115 games. He has joined Reggie White (124), DeMarcus Ware (111), Jared Allen (105) and T.J. Watt (104) to tally at least 100 sacks in his first eight seasons.

Only Lawrence and Garrett have had at least 12 sacks in five consecutive seasons.

“Didn’t know about all that,” Garrett said. “That’s great company to be with. Definitely one of the guys I looked up to, as an athlete, as a football player coming up along my way, and still watch clips and watch his tenacity against the edge and all that.”
