Nazmul Hassan removed from BCB’s Board alongside 10 other directors

The BCB have also decided to form a constitution amendment committee, which will be headed by Nazmul Abedeen

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has removed 11 directors from the board, including former president Nazmul Hassan and BPL chairman Sheikh Sohel, for failing to attend more than three consecutive meetings of the governing council. The decision was taken at the 15th meeting of the BCB Board of Directors at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium.

Manzur Kader, AJM Nasir Uddin, Anwarul Islam, Shafiul Alam Chowdhury, Ismail Haider Mallick, Tanvir Ahmed, Obeid Nizam, Gazi Golam Murtoza, and Nazib Ahmed have been removed, along with three other directors: Naimur Rahman, Khaled Mahmud, and Enayet Hossain Siraj.

All of the above directors had a certain allegiance to the Awami League party. Nazmul was the sports minister in the Awami League government whereas Shafiul Alam Chowdhury was an Awami League MP.

The BCB has also decided to form a constitution amendment committee, which will be headed by Nazmul Abedeen. It must be noted that Bangladesh’s National Sports Council has asked the BCB to clarify its stance in accordance with the current political climate.

“To ensure the BCB remains functional and responsive to contemporary needs, the Board has decided to form a Constitution Amendment Committee. This committee, to be headed by BCB director Nazmul Abedin as convener, will be responsible for assessing the current BCB Constitution, identifying areas of improvement and proposing amendments that align with the strategic goals and evolving needs of the BCB,” BCB said in a statement.

“An acceptable (to all) and inclusive constitution plays a vital role to bring good governance in the sports arena, which has been seen over the time. Besides, a constitution is a sacred deposit to the respective organizations. The constitution also plays a vital role to confirm accountability and responsibility. NSC is determined to create such an ideal environment and firmly believes that BCB will stay with NSC,” the council,” it was stated in the letter.

“NSC traditionally doesn’t interfere in BCB’s daily activities. In addition, NSC morally plays an active role in BCB’s positive activities. NSC remains united with ICC’s ideology. NSC is considering forming a sub-committee to make necessary reforms to the BCB’s existing constitution. NSC is requesting to form a sub-committee after analyzing overall issues as well as to inform NSC after forming the sub-committee. Noteworthy, an inclusion of NSC members in the sub-committee will play a positive role,” it added.
