New Zealand batting great retires from international cricket

Guptill, who made his debut for New Zealand in 2009, scored 7436 runs across 198 ODIs, to go with 3531 from 122 T20Is. The swashbuckling right-handed batter also played 47 Tests for the Black Caps, returning with 2586 runs.

He was a key member of the New Zealand sides that made it to successive ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup finals in 2015 and 2019.

In 2015, as the Brendon McCullum-led side finished runner-ups, co-hosting the tournament, Guptill finished as the top-scorer with 547 runs.

During the campaign, he went on to blast 237 off 163 deliveries against West Indies, which remains the second-highest individual score in ODIs.
