NFL news, injury updates: Cowboys’ Dak Prescott heads to New York for second opinion on hamstring

Date:

The Dallas Cowboys, good or bad, are always one of the most talked about teams in the NFL because of their national fan base, outspoken owner and decades of success during the first half of the Super Bowl era, so its no surprise that their starting quarterback — who signed for the most guaranteed money in NFL history just before this season started — heading to New York for a second opinion on a serious hamstring injury would lead our news and notes coming out of Week 10.

It should also come as no surprise that, while 9-0 Chiefs have found ways to win without looking like the dominant offensive juggernaut they’ve been in much of the Patrick Mahomes era, a glaring hole in their offensive line that may be getting even bigger would be at the top of this list as the season rolls past its midway point.

Whoever you’re rooting for — or against — stay with Yahoo Sports for all of the news and notes from around the NFL in the fallout of Week 10 of the 2024 regular season.

Prescott hurt his hamstring, reportedly partially tearing his hamstring off the bone, and could miss the rest of the season, although thats set to be determined this week. He was on the sidelines for Dallas’ latest home blowout loss — a 34-6 shellacking at the hands of the hated division-rival Eagles — but is headed to New York to see a specialist for another opinion on the injury, and if he elects for surgery, he’ll have it this week and miss the rest of the season. The Cowboys are 3-6 and going nowhere fast at this point in the year.

Amid the Cowboys’ struggles, Jerry Jones said that he would not be making a coaching change after his team’s latest home blowout loss. Stay tuned.

The Chiefs have found just about every possible to pull out a late win this season, and Week 10’s blocked kick will be remembered for a long time in the Chiefs-Broncos rivalry, but what might be more pressing for Kansas City are their troubles at left tackle. Starter Wanya Morris exited the game with a knee injury and reserve Kingsley Suamataia didn’t fare well in his stead and Morris did return to finish the game. Partick Mahomes was sacked four times and hit on another nine dropbacks, so it’ll be interesting to see how Andy Reid, Matt Nagy and offensive line coach Andy Heck manage the situation at one of the most important positions in football.

How fortunes can change in just three weeks. After a third-straight win, and coming off a four touchdown pass performance, Caleb Williams looked like he was in the midst of a big jump in his rookie season. It turns out it may have just been that Chicago was playing Jacksonville and had played Carolina the week before. Now, after three straight losses, Yahoo Sports’ Senior NFL Writer Frank Schwab says its time for head coach Matt Eberflus and offensive coordinator Shane Waldron to go, saying Chicago neext to fix what’s wrong, and quickly.

“I think that [an] offensive coordinator change is almost imminent…like you can’t keep doing this. This is just ugly football,” Schawb said on Yahoo Sports’ ‘Inside Coverage’ podcast.
