NH police: Tractor-trailer overturns on I-95 exit ramp in Hampton

Date:

HAMPTON — A tractor-trailer driver suffered minor injuries in a rollover crash Monday that shut down a highway exit ramp in Hampton for six hours.

State police were called to Route 101 eastbound at the exit ramp for Interstate 95 at 7:41 p.m. for a report of the crash.

Police said that a preliminary investigation revealed a 2017 Freightliner, driven by Haixuan Guo, 48, of Eastvale, California, was hauling a flatbed trailer loaded with construction material when it exited Route 101 east via the ramp to I-95.

For reasons still under investigation, police said Guo lost control of the truck while negotiating a curve, causing the truck and trailer to overturn. The overturned tractor-trailer came to rest partially on the travel portion of the exit ramp and partially on the grass shoulder along the left side of the ramp, according to police.

Police said driver of the truck, Guo, was also initially entrapped within the cab of the truck but was extricated by responding firefighters. Guo, according to police, was transported by ambulance to a local hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

Police said “significant debris” was scattered throughout the area, and the truck was found to be leaking diesel fuel.

While troopers investigated the scene, police said emergency personnel worked to mitigate the fuel spill and to remove the truck and trailer “along with associated debris.”

Police said the exit ramp was closed to traffic for approximately six hours. It was reopened at 1:42 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 3.

Members of Troop A were assisted at the scene by members of the Troop G barracks, the Hampton Police Department, the Hampton Fire Department, the New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services, the New Hampshire Department of Transportation, and the National Wrecker Service.

Police said the crash remains under further investigation. Anyone with information should contact Trooper Seth Parker at Seth.W.Parker@DOS.NH.GOV.
