Manchester United have confirmed their first signing of transfer deadline day.
The Red Devils recently reached an agreement to sign teenager Sekou Kone from Guidars FC and the club have now announced his arrival with a statement.
Kone, who turned 18 earlier this year, is a defensive midfielder by trade. He made his name with Mali during last year’s Under-17 World Cup in Indonesia.
The youngster was ever-present for Mali at the tournament. He was exceptional defensively with 10.4 duels and 4.3 tackles won per game alongside 7.6 recoveries.
Kone also completed 76% of his take-ons for his country. He registered a couple of assists at the tournament including one against Argentina in the third-place play-off win.
United have signed a huge talent who was also on the radar of Red Bull Salzburg. He will be initially supported by the academy to settle into life in Manchester.
With his immense potential, it may not be long before manager Erik ten Hag is convinced to include him in the first-team training sessions before handing him a debut.
Kone won’t be United’s last signing of the summer. The club are expected to confirm the acquisition of midfielder Manuel Ugarte from Paris Saint-Germain very soon.
The deal has been slowed down by some pending paperwork, but it is only a matter of time before the Red Devils officially confirm the signing of the Uruguayan star.
Ugarte won’t be involved against Liverpool in the Premier League on Sunday. The club were unable to register him for the game before the midday deadline today.
