Inter Milan coach Simone Inzaghi has decided to start Stefan de Vrij in midfield against Cagliari. This evening’s Serie A matchday 18 clash kicks off at 18.00 CET.
Inter face Cagliari away in Sardinia for their final Serie A match of 2024.
And it promises to be a big match at both ends of the table.
For the Nerazzurri, firstly, there’s massive pressure to take three points in a fierce title race against the likes of Atalanta and Napoli among others.
Meanwhile, Cagliari are currently in the Serie A relegation zone. Therefore, any result they can take this evening in front of their home fans would be precious.
Stefan De Vrij Returns To Inter Starting XI Vs Cagliari
Firstly, Inter coach Simone Inzaghi has given the nod to Yann Sommer in goal.
Therefore, the former Bayern Munich and Borussia Monchengladbach keeper continues his streak of starting every Serie A match for Inter this season.
Meanwhile, in defense, Inzaghi has made the only change to the team that beat Como last Monday.
Stefan de Vrij is fully fit again. Therefore, the Dutchman returns to the centre of the Nerazzurri back three.
Then, it’s Yann Bisseck and Alessandro Bastoni starting on either side of de Vrij. Therefore, Carlos Augusto drops to the bench.
In midfield, meanwhile, the trio of Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Hakan Calhanoglu, and Nicolo Barella retain their places.
Then, on the flanks Inzaghi has once again opted for Federico Dimarco and Denzel Dumfries.
Lastly, in attack Lautaro Martinez and Marcus Thuram lead the line for Inter from the first minute.
In terms of injuries, meanwhile, Inter have Matteo Darmian out as well as more long-term absences Benjamin Pavard and Francesco Acerbi.
