Alameda, Calif. – Home furnishings chain World Market is opening new locations for the first time since it was acquired by a private equity firm in 2021.
The specialty retailer recently grand opened its newest store in the Stephanie Street Shopping Center in Henderson, Nev. The new 15,138-sq.-ft. unit is located at 535 N. Stephanie St., anchored between Michaels and PetSmart in the shopping center. This is World Market’s 5th location in Nevada.
“This opening is the beginning of an exciting season for World Market, with 5 more stores launching nationwide in October and November,” said CEO Eric Hunter.
In July, the nameplate opened a new store at the Rookwood Commons & Pavilion in Cincinnati. The 14,500-sq.-ft. unit is located at 2692 Madison Road, Suite D1 next door to Sierra Trading Post and Mitchell’s Salon & Spa in the shopping center. It is the 8th World Market location in Ohio. It joins 7 other locations in the state, including Akron, Dublin, North Canton, Westlake as well as 3 existing units in the Columbus area. [Editor’s note: The number of locations in Ohio has been updated since publication.]
The first store opening under the current ownership took place in Baltimore at the The Avenue @ White Marsh) in early May. The 15,000-sq.-ft. location is World Market’s 2nd unit in Maryland.
With the recent Nevada launch, the chain now operates 240 locations – just shy of the 245 stores it had when World Market was acquired by Kingswood Capital Management in early 2021. The equity firm paid $110 million to then-owner Bed Bath & Beyond, which was in the process of selling off assets to streamline its business.
