Pau Victor shares his honest reflection on debut Barcelona goal after Osasuna defeat

Pau Victor netted his first official goal for FC Barcelona last night, following an impressive pre-season tour in the USA and several promising cameo appearances in recent league matches.

However, his maiden goal in Blaugrana colors came under unfortunate circumstances, as Barcelona suffered a 4-2 defeat against Osasuna at El Sadar.

Despite the disappointing result, the 22-year-old striker provided a brief glimmer of hope, making it 2-1 and giving Barcelona a chance to claw back into the game.

As Mundo Deportivo has reported, the young striker also spoke to the media after the game, and shared his hope that his first official goal for the club had come in better circumstances:

“I wish the goal had come under different circumstances; it’s not the most important thing about this game. I’m not even thinking about scoring because we need to focus on the mistakes we made in order to improve.”

The forward who permanently joined Barcelona last summer from fellow Catalan club Girona also recalled how the match went for his side:

“We weren’t comfortable in the first half; they set up the game well, and in the second half we made adjustments, but just when we were playing better, they are strong on the counterattack and hurt us with the 3-1.”

Pau Victor was also at the center of some controversy as he had received a stomp from an Osasuna player in the move that ended in the second goal for the hosts. The striker believed it was a foul, but did not want to criticise the referee too much:

I don’t want to make excuses; we didn’t lose because of the referee. He says he touched the ball first, but he stepped on me, and I think it’s a clear foul, though we can’t focus on that. He didn’t call it, and that’s it.

This was a good decision on Pau Victor’s side not to engage himself in refereeing controversy. After scoring his first official goal for the Catalans last night, the striker will be looking forward to getting some more goals with this Barcelona team, and hopefully, he will be able to do so in the weeks and months to come.
