WHAT COACH HAS SAID HEADING INTO THIS SEASON
“He’s not as comfortable scoring in the post,” Jeff Capel said. “Most of his points at Florida State came off of drop-offs, rim runs, and things like that. He’s becoming more comfortable. We think he has the capability to do it. It’s just different. Cam, I don’t think has ever played more than 18 or 19 minutes a game. We want him to be able to play more. How are you going to be able to do that? There’s a different type of conditioning that goes into doing that. The way that they played at Florida State — and it’s a program that I have so much respect for — number one, he’s been well coached. Like, really, really well coached down there. But their style was different. They rotated ten, 11 guys. With that, with never playing 20 minutes a game, averaging for a season, foul trouble. He, at times, could foul a lot there because you were constantly being rotated in and out. So it’s just all of those things.
“Now, he’s talented. He’s really talented. We thought he was good when we coached against him for two years. I think he’s better after having a chance to work with him. He’s an unbelievable kid, he works his butt off, and he’s done that since he’s been here this summer. He’s a great teammate. He certainly brings some things to the table that we have not had, and we’re excited about that. We’re excited about helping him to continue to develop those things, where hopefully he can become dominant. He’s not that yet, but we are hopeful that he can become a really, really good player.”
