For the first time since suffering a severe Achilles injury back in February 2023, Presnel Kimpembe (29) was included in the matchday squad to face Bayern Munich in the UEFA Champions League in mid-week. It therefore came as a surprise that the Frenchman, on the recovery trail, was omitted entirely from Paris Saint-Germain’s squad to face FC Nantes on Saturday. The player himself was also surprised, and he has been left frustrated by the situation, as reported by L’Équipe.
Internally, Kimpembe has said that he is completely ready to return to first-team action, whilst medical tests have confirmed the France international’s readiness to resume his playing career after a serious lay-off. The defender is excited to return to competition, however, his manager, Luis Enrique, has repeatedly stated that Kimpembe is still in the recovery phase.
Kimpembe, who has been told by the medical staff at PSG that he is ready to play, did not understand his omission from the squad to face Nantes, given that he was included against Bayern Munich. The defender has expressed his “frustration” at the situation to multiple people at the Ligue 1 club. It is a situation, one which Kimpembe is struggling to comprehend, that is causing fractions and tension.
