The tournament raised scholarship funds and honored the memory of John Prete, a 1947 Hornell graduate who served during the Korean War. He went on to a 39-year career with the New York State Department of Transportation in Hornell, retiring in 1995. Prete remained active in the community and was a regular at Twin Hickory.
