Q&A: 2025 top-30 center Eric Reibe recaps his IU basketball official visit

Date:

Class of 2025 top-30 center Eric Reibe completed an official visit to Indiana over the weekend.

The 7-foot Reibe is ranked the No. 29 overall player in the 2025 class, and the No. 2 center.

A native of Germany, Reibe attends The Bullis School in Maryland.

The Daily Hoosier caught up with Reibe following his IU official visit.  Here’s our discussion with him.

TDH:  So what stands out about the visit?

Reibe – The coaches, the development for big men like me was very impressive.  How he (Mike Woodson) developed Trayce Jackson-Davis and Kel’el Ware.  His development of them, you can clearly see it.  How they changed their bodies in the weight room, that’s very attractive for me to see, because I definitely have to work on my physique.  The fan base is great too.  Those are some of the main things.

TDH:  What did Oumar Ballo tell you about his experience so far at Indiana?

Reibe – He mentioned how he already feels like he has been improving a lot, and during the preseason he feels like his body has improved and he’s in better shape, and that’s the reason why he went there (to IU).  He’s seen what they’ve done with their big men, and he thinks that’s a great place for him so he can develop and dominate.

TDH:  What are you looking to get out of a college program when it comes to changing your body?

Reibe – I’m looking for a school to come up with a really clear plan, with what I need to work on, determine what my best weight is.  I definitely need to put on more mass and be more lean.  Right now I weigh 235-237, but I want to be 245 and lean and put on some more mass.

TDH:  Who all made the trip with you to Bloomington?

Reibe – My dad was there.  My mom couldn’t come.  My family friend Rodney Rice was there too, he makes all of the visits with me too.

TDH:  What are the main things that you and your family are looking for as you go on these visits?

Reibe — Definitely playing time.  I want to be able to play right away and get good minutes and potentially a starting spot.  Player development.  How they use bigs — playing style is very important.  And my connection to the head coach too, those are the main things.

TDH:  Did you get a chance to watch the team practice?  What were your main takeaways from that?

Reibe — Yes, full practice and scrimmage.  They play a fast and organized style, and they utilize their big men.

TDH:  You and Ballo have very different playing styles as big men.  Were you able to see how you’d fit into their playing style?

Reibe — I saw a bunch of high-low stuff and post-ups, which is also part of my game.  And they would expand it more to get more value out of my three-point shot, with more pick-and-pops.

TDH:  You often mention playing time and a path to the NBA as major priorities.  After the visit, do you see that as a clear possibility at Indiana?

Reibe — Yeah, I do for sure.

TDH:  What’s their message to you?  Do they say you can come in and start on day one?

Reibe — They say that three bigs are leaving (Ballo, Langdon Hatton, Dallas James).  If I come in, they see me starting or playing a lot of minutes as a freshman.  Even if transfers come in, they would still see me as starting.

TDH:  Tell me a little bit about your impressions of Bloomington, the football game, things like that?

Reibe — It’s a great environment.  There are a bunch of students everywhere.  Two of my old teammates (from Bullis School) go to Indiana, so I caught up with them and they told me a bunch of stuff about Indiana.  They are students, not athletes there, but they have a lot of fun there and enjoy going to all of the sporting events.  I think the college life is pretty good over there.  The atmosphere, the fans, it’s all pretty cool.  And then the housing, the area, I like that all too.

TDH:  I read you were interested in business school.  Is that something you took a look at on your visit?

Reibe — I did go to the Kelley School and took a look at it all.  It’s definitely very impressive.  Mark Cuban comes from there, and they’ve had a lot of people there that have had success at that school.  That’s definitely something that I’d like to look closer at.

TDH:  2025 Indiana targets Trent Sisley and Braylon Mullins were also on campus this weekend for their visits.  Did you get a chance to spend time with them?

Reibe — I did.  I spent a lot of time with them.  I like both of them. I think we would complement each other a lot.  We all play different positions.  So that’s pretty optimal.

TDH:  I know you recently visited UConn and Kansas, tell me real quick what you think about each of those schools.

Reibe — Both of those schools are obviously great programs with a lot of success and great head coaches.  They’re both in need of a big man too.  So it’s kind of a situation where everyone needs a big guy, and those are all spots that are open for me.

TDH:  Are you still going to Oregon in a couple weeks?

Reibe — Yes, I am.

TDH:  And will that be your last visit, with a decision likely coming in October?

Reibe — That will be my last visit, and yes that is the plan.
