Rangers’ Matt Rempe suspended eight games for hit on Stars’ Miro Heiskanen

Date:

Rangers forward Matt Rempe received an eight-game suspension following his hit on Dallas Stars defenseman Miro Heiskanen on Friday night.

After meeting with NHL Player Safety in an in-person hearing, the 22-year-old faced disciplinary action by the league and was suspended for the second time in his young career.

In his first game for New York since Nov. 25, Rempe boarded/elbowed Heiskanen from behind in the third period and received a five-minute major for elbowing and a game misconduct. It was his fourth ejection in just 22 NHL games.

Both of Rempe’s suspensions have been due to elbowing after the 6-foot-9 forward hit Devils defenseman Jonas Siegenthaler in March 2023 that got him a four-game suspension.

In five games for the Blueshirts, Rempe has zero points and 24 penalty minutes while averaging six minutes on the ice. He was recalled from the AHL’s Hartford Wolf Pack on Dec. 18 after the Rangers traded Kaapo Kakko to the Seattle Kraken.
