Rio Ngumoha looked ELECTRIC on Liverpool debut

Liverpool youngster Rio Ngumoha has made his first appearance for the Reds since his move from Chelsea this summer.

Ngumoha is seen as one of England’s most exciting young prospects and has been handed his first minutes for the Anfield side as he featured as a used substitute in Liverpool U18s’ 2-0 defeat to Blackburn Rovers on Saturday morning.

The young Reds failed to impress in a relatively flat encounter with the Lancashire side and found themselves behind a minute after the interval.

Ngumoha was introduced into the fold with just over twenty minutes to go and his speed, skill and directness were there for all to see within moments of being subbed on.

The winger picked up the ball from deep and demonstrated immense pace to effortlessly beat his full-back before producing a perfect cross with his weak foot [left] that almost produced a Liverpool equaliser. That was his very first moment in a Red shirt and it was an electric one – the brightest moment of the entire game for Liverpool.

Blackburn struggled to deal with Ngumoha for the remainder of the game which resulted in a number of players trying to take out the 16-year-old when he got into his stride – which resulted in Liverpool’s new star having a turn with one of the culprits.

Blackburn secured the win with a late second goal after goalkeeper Bailey Hall gave away the ball in the dying embers, after keeping Liverpool in the game for large spells of the game.

Ngumoha is now set to feature against AC Milan in the UEFA Youth League on Tuesday.

Michael Edwards responsible for Ngumoha signing

According to the Daily Mail, Liverpool’s Chief Executive Michael Edwards’ contribution in tempting Ngumoha into swapping Chelsea for Liverpool should not go amiss with the 16-year-old initially willing to stay put at the London club.

Despite having sought assurances from the Blues that there was a clear pathway to the first team for him, it’s believed that Chelsea were slow in presenting the talent with a defined plan.

However, by the time Ngumoha had realised this plan, it was too late, with Liverpool having proposed a clear strategy for first-team integration to the England youngster.

It has not been a signing that has hit the mainstream media but it’s certainly a move that has sent shockwaves through the academy community with the winger destined for the top.
