Sheff Utd takeover completed by US-based COH Sports

Date:

The takeover of Sheffield United has been officially completed by American-based consortium COH Sports.

The group is led by businessmen Steven Rosen and Helmy Eltoukhy, who will join the Blades’ board as co-chairmen.

Rosen is the founder and chairman of Resilience Capital Partners, while Eltoukhy chairs biotech company Guardant Health.

This ends Saudi Arabian Prince Abdullah Bin Mosaad Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud’s five-year spell as sole owner of the Bramall Lane club.

Chris Wilder’s side currently top the Championship by three points from Leeds United.

The deal sees COH Sports take 100% control of both the men’s and women’s football teams, the hotel at Bramall Lane and all real estate.

In a statement, the consortium said the new owners were fully supportive of Wilder and the club’s CEO Stephen Bettis and were confident of providing the right structure for the club to flourish.

Rosen and Eltoukhy, who describe themselves as “honoured and humbled” to have taken over one of the oldest clubs in the EFL, hope to see the Blades back in the Premier League very quickly.

“Like all Blades fans we want to see the club competing in the top-flight of English football consistently, not just on a one-off basis, and we have been encouraged by the strong start to this season,” they told the club’s website.

“The team has been performing strongly and we are committed to supporting the management team to continue this progress.

“We want to take this chance to assure the supporters that we understand the huge responsibility that comes with owning Sheffield United.

The club is rooted in the fabric of this great city and our fans are the beating heart who back the team no matter what.

“Our fans will be at the heart of what COH stands for, and we are deeply committed to ensuring Sheffield United is accessible and affordable for our supporters.”
