Syracuse men’s basketball: former Orange guard Judah Mintz signs with Philadelphia 76ers

Date:

After getting some time in the NBA Summer League, the wait was well worth it for former Syracuse Orange men’s basketball guard Judah Mintz.

Mintz signed a new deal with the Philadelphia 76ers, the team announced Sunday.

The specific terms were not disclosed by the 76ers, but Adam Zagoria reports it is an Exhibit-10 – essentially a one-year contract for the league minimum that can be converted to a two-way deal.

After going undrafted in the most recent NBA Draft, Mintz signed a summer league contract with the 76ers. Seeing time in both the Salt Lake City Summer League and NBA2k25 Summer League, he appeared in eight games and averaged 9.5 points and 1.5 assists per game.

Last year, Mintz averaged 18.8 points, 3.2 rebounds, 4.4 assists and 2.1 steals as the lead ball-handler and scorer for the Orange. He ended up making the All-ACC second team in 2023-24.

Specifically at point guard, Mintz will start off deeper in the rotation. The Sixers are currently led by the reigning Most Improved Player in All-Star guard Tyrese Maxey. A couple veteran options, namely Kyle Lowry and Reggie Jackson, project as the current backup ones.

You could see Mintz theoretically playing the two, especially if he’s next to a point guard who is more of a threat from the perimeter. Philly’s guard depth also includes fellow rookie Jared McCain, Ricky Council IV and Eric Gordon. Paul George, easily the biggest free agent signing from any team this offseason, could (but not likely) see some time at guard as well.

Again, since we don’t know the terms of the deal, we’ll what to wait and see for that to determine what Mintz’s outlook looks like with the Sixers specifically. Nonetheless, it’s always good to see a former player getting a shot in the NBA.

Now including Mintz, four former players signed new deals over the course of the offseason. Cole Swider landed a one-year, non-guaranteed deal most recently with the Indiana Pacers, Buddy Boeheim signed an Exhibit 10 deal with the Oklahoma City Thunder and Jesse Edwards agreed to a two-way contract with the Minnesota Timberwolves.
