Looking ahead

The sectional round of the tennis state tournament is just around the corner with beginning Tuesday and running through next week.

The IHSAA will announce the sectional draw with the pairing show at 7 p.m. Monday streaming exclusively at IHSAAtv.org.

Greensburg has the toughest road to a sectional championship. The Pirates are in Sectional 20, hosted by Columbus North.

The Pirates and Bull Dogs are joined by Columbus East, Edinburgh and Hauser.

In the most recent Indiana High School Tennis Coaches Association state tennis rankings, Columbus North is ranked No. 5.

East Central is the host for Sectional 19.

Joining the Trojans will be Batesville, Lawrenceburg, Milan, Oldenburg Academy and South Dearborn.

Batesville and East Central look to be the favorites. During the regular season, the Bulldogs won at No. 3 singles and swept the doubles matches to post a 3-2 victory over the Trojans.

Sectional 22 will be contested at Connersville.

The host Spartans will battle Franklin County, Rushville and Union County for the sectional title.

Connersville is the favorite to raise the trophy at the end of the tournament. The Spartans are 15-2 on the season and 7-0 in the EIAC. Connersville has regular season wins over Rushville and Franklin County.
