In the Jackson area, three restaurants received a failing health inspection grade in September, according to the Mississippi State Department of Health.
As of Oct. 2, two of the three restaurants had conducted follow-up inspections and had rectified the failing grades.
Below are the restaurants and food service facilities in District V, including Hinds, Rankin and Madison counties, which received a failing grade of “C.”
Hinds County
All three locations are in Hinds County:

One Stop Concession: During its inspection on Sept. 25, One Stop Concession in Jackson, a mobile unit located on 3295 Forest Hill Rd., received a failing C rating. The only other inspection at this site occurred in 2018 when One Stop Concession received an A rating. A record of the recent failing inspection shows One Stop Concession lacked an adequate hand-washing facility, properly sanitized surfaces in contact with food and a certified manager. As of Oct. 2, One Stop Concession had not received a follow-up inspection.

Piggly Wiggly: During a scheduled inspection on Sept. 19, the Piggly Wiggly at 225 Meadowbrook Rd. in Jackson received a C rating due to improper temperatures for keeping cold food and improper toilet facilities. This location received a C rating once before in Jan. 2023. On Sept. 30, the Piggly Wiggly passed the corrective follow-up inspection with a B rating.

The Mighty Crab: During a permit inspection, the Mighty Crab at 6380 Ridgewood Court Drive in Jackson received a C rating due to inadequate hand-washing facilities. On Sept. 25, the restaurant passed a follow-up inspection and received a B rating. The Mighty Crab had not received a failing grade before.

The grading system:
The MSDH grades health inspections on an A, B and C scale, with C considered a failing grade.
The MSDH website states the following regarding the grading scale:

A rating: “The facility inspection found no critical violations. Critical violations of the state Food Code are those more likely to lead to food contamination, illness, or other health risk.”

B rating: “Critical violations were found, but corrected under the supervision of the inspecting environmentalist. No further corrective actions are required.”

C rating: “Critical violations were found, but some or all were not corrected during the inspection. The facility will be re-inspected, and all violations must be corrected in a time period not to exceed 10 days. The re-inspection date is posted on the graded report. If violations are not corrected in the specified time, steps are taken to suspend the facility’s permit to operate. A grade of C is also given if critical violations are repeated from the last inspection, even if they were corrected at that time.”
