On BBC Radio Manchester’s latest City update, Mike Minay looks back at the win over West Ham – hearing from Pep Guardiola on Erling Haaland, Rico Lewis on his start to the season and Kevin de Bruyne on whether he nearly left the club in the summer.

Lewis, 19, has started City’s opening three games and believes having regular opportunities is key to his positive form.

When asked by Minay if he was playing the best football he has played in a City shirt, Lewis said, “I think so. When you get a chance to play that’s when you can show yourself the most.

“This is one of the few times I’ve had three games in a row. Thanks to the manager – he’s put me in and trusted me.

“There’s not much more we could have done. We’re in a good position – the best thing we could have started with is nine points and that is what we’ve got.

“It’s not completely different from last season but being on the pitch for more time you get to show more of what you can do. That’s what has been key for me – I’ve had that chance since the start.

“That’s due to Kyle having a really good season last season and going to the Euros and being really good. It would be unfair on him to start straight away given the minutes he played last season. That’s what has given me the chance.”

Lewis has also been rewarded for his positive start to the season with a call-up to Lee Carsley’s first squad as interim England manager against the Republic or Ireland and Finland in the Nations League.

“[I am] Happy,” he added.

“It’s a nice thing. It’s a proud moment whenever you get called up and it’s an exciting time to and play a couple of games with the seniors.”
