Torino are considering Inter Milan striker as a possible replacement for Duvan Zapata after the Colombian’s injury.
Italian broadcaster SportMediaset, via FCInterNews, report that the former West Ham United striker is firmly on the Granata’s list of possible targets for the January transfer window.
Torino are reeling from a serious injury to captain Zapata.
The Colombian suffered the injury during the Granata’s final match before the international break, against Inter.
Zapata suffered an ACL tear. He was among a slew of high-profile players to suffer similar injuries in recent weeks.
The injury means that Zapata will be out for much if not all of the rest of the season.
That certainly presents a problem for Torino.
Zapata is the Granata’s captain. The former Atalanta and Napoli striker has been a regular source of goals since his arrival last summer.
And beyond Zapata’s goals, the Colombian also gives the team a veteran presence in terms of holdup play.
Torino Eye Up Inter Striker Marko Arnautovic As Zapata Replacement
One thing that’s clear is that Torino want to sign a striker. Their strong start to the season could be difficult to maintain if they don’t add quality in attack.
And according to Mediaset, Torino are looking around in Serie A.
One natural candidate to take over from Zapata in January would be Inter striker Arnautovic.
The 35-year-old is a veteran striker with strong physical presence like Zapata.
Arnautovic has proven himself in the Italian top flight with Bologna and Inter.
It remains to be seen whether Inter would listen to offers for the Austrian.
Arnautovic is hardly first-choice for the Nerazzurri. But he is a player who they see as an important part of the attacking depth.
Arnautovic accepted the fact that he has dropped down the pecking order over the summer.
Therefore, it has not been a surprise to see the veteran former West Ham United and Stoke City striker play relatively few minutes so far in the season.
And Inter have been happy with what Arnautovic has contributed when he has had the opportunity to play.
If Inter were to entertain offers for the Austrian, his wages could also pose a problem for Torino.
Mediaset report that the Granata’s other two main attacking targets are both at Fiorentina. They could move for Christian Kouame or M’Bala Nzola.
