UConn men’s basketball schedule released

Date:

HARTFORD, CT. (WFSB) – If you’re a UConn fan who plans your winter around basketball games – you can start making plans now.

The big east men’s schedule is out tonight.

Maybe the biggest take away is the game at St. John’s.

Last year, St. Johns coach Rick Pitino made a lot of noise about playing the Huskies at Madison Square Garden,

Pitino said it was more like a UConn home game and wanted to play it on the St. Johns campus.

Well, it’s gonna be at the garden.

That game against St. Johns will be February 23rd, a Sunday afternoon game.

UConn, by the way was undefeated in games last year at Madison Square Garden.

It’s one of 20 big east games the huskies will play. 10 Home, 10 on the road.

The Big East opener is December 18, a Wednesday night game. Still to be determined is where the 10 home games will be played.

The XL Center or at Gampel.

After the December 18th game with Xavier, the Huskies don’t have another home game until January 5th when they play Providence.

UConn will play 4 of the last 6 games at home, and one of those six is the game at MSG against St. Johns.

It’s a tough finish. Big east tournament seeding will be at stake when UConn plays Marquette and Seton Hall the final two games of the season.

The non conference schedule was released last week.

UConn opens with an exhibition against Rhode island Oct 14th.

It includes games against Memphis, Colorado or Michigan state in the Maui tournament as well as Baylor, Texas and Gonzaga.

  • Nov 25th Memphis
  • Nov 26th Colorado/Michigan state
  • Dec 4th Baylor
  • Dec 8th at Texas
  • Dec 14 Gonzaga (MSG)

If you want to have a chance to play for a 3rd national championship, this is the kind of schedule that helps you do it.

The Big East, we know, is always brutal.

The tough non-conference schedule before those big east games should, and look, Dan Hurley’s done this before – toughen the Huskies up for those 20 straight big east games.
