US weather forecast: Flood likely in Baltimore, Washington; Heatwave warning in California, Texas

Date:

Heavy downpours are expected to bring flash flooding to numerous cities, with Baltimore and Washington under Flood Watches. The intense rainfall could overwhelm drainage systems and waterways, posing significant risks to urban areas and prompting officials to urge residents to stay alert and prepared for rapidly changing conditions, Fox Weather stated.

A period of cool, cloudy, and damp weather is on the horizon for millions in the mid-Atlantic and Northeast. This is due to two low-pressure systems moving across the eastern United States, bringing with them heavy rain and potentially severe thunderstorms.

The NOAA Storm Prediction Center (SPC) has designated areas including Baltimore, Washington, Maine, and New Hampshire at a Level 1 risk on their 5-point severe thunderstorm scale. This indicates a marginal but present threat of severe weather, urging residents in these regions to stay vigilant, as per Fox Weather.

Meanwhile, millions of people in the Western and Southern United States will bear the brunt of the summer’s first heat wave starting on Tuesday as temperatures are expected to soar above 100 degrees Fahrenheit (37.8 degrees Celsius) across the region.

From northern California down through southern Arizona and into South Texas, some 19 million Americans will spend the rest of the work week under excessive heat warnings and advisories issued by the National Weather Service (NWS).

The forecast calls for temperatures in the triple digits in many low elevation spots, including Sacramento, Phoenix and in Las Vegas, where the high is expected to reach 111 degrees Fahrenheit (44 degrees Celsius) on Thursday, the NWS said.
